Jackie Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia 1919. His parents were Jerry and Mallie Robinson. He was signed as a free agent in 1945 for the Dodgers. Jackie Robinson became the first African-American to play baseball. Robinson was mainly a second,first,and third baseman. The Brooklyn Dodgers moved west and became the LA Dodgers after the 1957 season. Robinson attended UCLA, where he lettered in 4 sports: track, baseball, football, and basketball. He served in the US. Army from 1941-1944. According to the official site of Robinson"Jackie married Rachel Isum in 1946." They had 3 children: Jackie JR, Sharon, & David Robinson. In 1947 precedent was shattered when Robinson was brought up to the Brooklyn club. In a classic match up for the 1952 world title, the Dodgers faced intracity rival New York Yankees.
